#80 A Week of Love & Work

Week 80.1I love the Hong Kong People! I love my mission!

Time seems to be running too fast. Can I stop the time?

Well, I can’t. I am so happy that I was able to serve as a missionary here in China Hong Kong. I never thought that I would love the city, the Chinese, and this culture as much as I do know. It is amazing and always will be. There is now a place in my heart etched out for Hong Kong and my mission experiences here.

This past week has been great. I love West Point. We have been really busy and have had a blast doing the work of the Lord. We have taught quite a few lessons but mainly I have been really busy with meetings and interviews as an STL. But we were still able to help our area. Our investigator Floren has had the most progress this past week. She came to all three hours of church and absolutely loved it. She was even in our ward picture. It made me happy. She has been reading more and hasn’t given in to the temptation of drinking tea! We are so happy and will continue to pray for her. I feel like she has a solid baptismal date for May 22. She is progressing and really wants to be baptized.

Week 80.3Our ward activity of ‘Bring your Friend to Church Day’ was a success!! We had 8 friends/family members come. It was so awesome! We were so happy and the ward was extremely happy. We could tell that we pushed them a little bit but it was so good. They responded great and many said that they invited but their friends were unable to come. So that is where they can invite their friends to the FHE on Saturday. I am hoping they will invite friends as well. Our ward is awesome. I think all the people who attended really liked the sacrament meeting. I even noticed a few of them crying. The Spirit was so strong. Us 4 missionaries and a member of the Seventy, Elder Chow, spoke. It was a really simple sacrament meeting but so happy. I would count this activity as a success. One of the members friends will become a new investigator for the Elders this week. Miracles happen and we love serving in West Point. They are a great group of members!

Week 80.4

The Perry Chu Family

Time seems to fly by here in the mission field. I can’t believe that this is my last email time as a missionary. I have loved the past 18 months as a missionary. I love working hard, being obedient, sacrificing for investigators, loving the people and preaching of Christ. It is so great and I love it. I have learned a lot and will continue to use the principles I learned on my mission at home. I know that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. He lives. Teaching people of Jesus Christ and His restored gospel has been harder than I can ever explain but it has also been the most rewarding of all. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the only true church on this earth. God loves us immensely. He wants to help us and let us learn. In Christ we can find peace and mercy. He also loves us. I love my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Lolo

I am so grateful for the knowledge and testimony I have of Eternal Families, guidance from a living God, and most of all our potential to become like God. I love this gospel with all my heart. I believed I have served a good and faithful mission. I love this work and will continue to do so when I return. After all, I have learned from these outstanding Hong Kong members that member-missionary work is super important. Have a great week. Pray more and love people even as God loveth them. See you in a few:) I can’t wait to give everyone a HUGE hug and eat together as a family. Keep it together. I love you!

I love missionary work with my whole heart. I love my Father in Heaven.

With Love Always,  Sister Stromberg

Week 80.11

#79 I LOVE Missionary Work!

Cheung Chau

Cheung Chau

Wow, this week FLEW BY! The beginning of this week seems like it forever ago. I guess that is what happens when you are having fun:)

Can I just say that I love being a missionary!? It is the greatest thing ever! It seems kind of weird that I will be finishing my mission soon, it still doesn’t seem that quick. But, don’t worry because Heavenly Father is still blessing us!

We have been quite busy lately teaching lessons and visiting members. It has been great. Mainly we are working really hard for our upcoming ward activity that we have planned with the Ward Council. We have invited all of our ward members to “Bring a Friend to church.” It will be great and all four of us missionaries are speaking in sacrament meeting. Yay! I love Chinese but I am a bit nervous to speak. No worries it will be great. Then we will have a follow up FHE where the members can re-invite their friends to the church. It is going to be really fun:)

Week 79.2We taught quite a few lessons. It was awesome! The Lord is blessing us and we are loving it. Our investigators are slowly progressing but that is okay because conversion is a lifelong journey.

~Floren hasn’t dranken tea this week and she came to church for 1 hour!!! YES! We are improving! Then she got the flu so it has been kind of hard to schedule her. We are trying to figure out what we need to teach her to help her progress more towards baptism and the conversion in the gospel.

~I am a bit worried about our investigator Rebecca. She hasn’t been to church in 4 weeks because she has had to work last minute and has had her son’s school functions. She has been reading a little bit but not much, so we are making sure to work on that. She has the desire to come to church and our members love her so I think it will just take a little bit longer for her to adjust. She is however looking for a different job in which she can attend church on Sundays. We are so happy and hope that she can find a new job. Her son is doing well too. The Elders are teaching him and he reads and really likes the gospel. He is a happy and quiet 12 year old boy.

We doing great. Teaching lessons with members, working hard, and loving serving these people. I love serving in West Point. We have a great relationship with the members and are doing great. We looked back at our numbers from the first week or so before we got here and we have tremendously improved. The Lord is blessing us and we are seeing the hard work paying off, little by little.

Our companionship is great. We are great friends and it is pretty smooth sailing here. We both have the same purpose and are working hard. I love serving with Sister Curtis and the work in West Point is moving! It has been a great week.

Reading the emails of Brock and Zane getting their mission calls it make me so excited for Jake. The mission is the best and I have learned so much from it. I absolutely love it! There is no doubt it is the HARDEST thing I have ever done but… It is the MOST REWARDING and HAPPY thing I have ever done. I cannot thank the Lord enough for how much I have learned, fallen down, gotten back up and worked for the salvation of these souls. I love this work with my whole heart. All I can say to the missionaries preparing to leave is… prepare to work, pray, study, love and testify more than you ever have. It is a glorious work!

Week 79.6

Cheung Popo from 1st area speaks in Mandarin, Shanghai dialect & Cantonese. She’s hard to understand 🙂

I know that this church is true. The gospel blesses lives and changes them for the better. I have seen it and it has happened to me. I love my Savior Jesus Christ and my Heavenly Father.

I sure love all y’all!  Sister Stromberg

#77 Spiritually Full

The HK Island Zone

The HK Island Zone

This week has been quite pleasant. We were very busy with General Conference, Zone Training, Mission Leadership Council, English Class, etc. I am pretty sure I looked crazy because it is a lot. I have been on a spiritual high. I love it though!

We were able to teach many lessons and be edified by our prophet and his apostles. We are doing great here in West Point. I love serving all of these people. I love serving as a Sister Training Leader as I am able to love and serve more missionaries in our zone. This past General Conference weekend I really enjoyed all of the talks. They are so inspiring and I learn lots through the Holy Ghost. I got answers to questions that I didn’t know I had. It was great. I really liked President Monson’s talk as I have been thinking about decisions for near future and all as well as how they will affect me. It was just what I needed. Also I really liked Elder Holland’s talk. It is amazing how strong the Spirit was throughout the conference.

The Lee Family

The Lee Family

Our investigators are doing okay. Floren is so great and has applied some things to her life from conference. She said that in Conference she understood more about the Tree of Life in Lehi’s dream. She has been thinking about it and we talked about it in our lesson last night. It was really great. She is building her testimony! YAY! She knows all the principles and lessons in and out as she has been taught since 2006. She recently came back wanting the gospel again. She is working on the Word of Wisdom as she has some tea problems. We are working with her and praying for her. We are also working to get members to be her friends because in the end that will help her stay active and strong against Satan.

Sumi and Rebecca are okay. We didn’t see Rebecca this week as she has been working a lot. But the Elders have been able to visit her son. Sumi came to conference but she didn’t look very happy. We are praying and studying how we can better help her. I know something is holding her back yet she keeps meeting with us. We just need to be able to discern her needs. Pray more and add oil right? Right. Then be patient because Heavenly Father has a plan for her.

Week 77.1I know time is fast here in the field. I am just loving it and trying to soak in all in even more. I love the mission. It amazes me though how Heavenly Father is slowly preparing me to end my service. Through small things he helps me. It is great! I love my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ whom I know know me better than I know myself. I am so grateful that I can serve them and also become closer to them.

With Love, Sister Stromberg

#76 Nothing Better Than HK

fun service

Fun Service

This week was really great! This week was great! We visited a lot of members and taught a lot of full lessons. We are so happy to be serving in West Point! I love the members and working with them. When we were finding this week we found a lost sheep couple who was baptized in Australia 10 or so years ago. We hope to be able to see them again and help them come to church. They are an interesting situation though because they are Revolutionists(they don’t like the government and think they are the triads). So we will try our best to help them. They are a cute couple and live right next to the church.

I love the city! It is a part of me.

I love the city! It is a part of me.

Our investigator Rebecca is doing great! However, she did not come to church yesterday because her son wouldn’t wake up. She is reading and praying. We hope that she continues to progress towards baptism on May 15th. She is so ready and is a strong woman. Her testimony is growing and she is trusting the Lord in all she does. She is so sweet! We have some great member help with her. The ward loves her and are so happy that she likes church and is learning about this gospel. She is accepting it really well. This week we will teach the Word of Wisdom and hopefully Sabbath Day Observance.

Floren is still struggling with not waking up on time and the Word of Wisdom. She needs some prayers. Sumi is doing okay. She was sick on Sunday. She just needs to decide and continue on with the gospel. We will continue working with them and praying for them.

We had some members visits this week which was awesome! We went to Dim Sum with the Chu family after teaching Rebecca. It was so awesome! I love Dim Sum. I had cow and pig stomach. A little chewy:) Sister Curtis tried Chicken feet for the first time and was mainly confused because she didn’t know how to eat it. Hahaha! I love our ward!

Week 76.2We were able to do service for a lovely lady named A-Fei. She is plastering her home because it is really old and had some water damage. It was so great to serve her. You kind of miss service like that here in Hong Kong because people don’t really invite a couple of young adults to help them unless they need it. She is really nice and I loved talking with her. We are going to start teaching her this week. She has actually already been to a church meeting because her friend just got baptized in Tai Wai. She is awesome!

I am so happy to be a missionary! I love this work with all my heart. It is the Lord’s work and bringing people the Love of Our Saviour and Heavenly Father is the best! The sacrifice and the hardships of missionary work is so worth it because it is literally the Salvation of Souls. I love these Chinese people with all my heart! I love serving the Lord! The time has gone by fast but it is meant to because than we can use what we have learned to help more people. I love my mission:)

Have a great week! I am looking forward to MLC (Mission Leadership Training), Zone Training and General Conference. It will be a spiritual flight:)

Love Love, Sister Stromberg

I asked her about her responsibilities as a Sister Training Leader and this is what she sent:

As Sister Training Leader we are equal to Zone Leaders. We get the weekly goals and then starting this week we will be having a conference call with the Zone Leaders, Assistants, Pres. Lam and us to discuss our zone needs. We oversee the Sisters in the zone, help train the missionaries, conduct exchanges, etc. Each week we also must personally visit or call each Sister in our zone. It is great. A lot of work but fun! Plus, I get to know more of my Sisters. I love it!

True Asians eat popcorn with chopsticks!

This week was great! We really were able to work with members a lot more. I love working with members and they are such a blessing to us missionaries if we can create that relationship of trust. We have been working really closely with our Relief Society President lately and it just keeps getting better because then she also helps us build stronger relationships with other members too. It is so great here in West Point! I love it!

Our investigators are doing well. We are currently teaching 3 solid investigators; Rebecca, Floren, and Sumi. It was so great to teach them this week. We didn’t however have the chance to teach Rebecca because she is so busy with work. She works 10am-10pm 6 days a week. That is crazy. I feel bad for her son. This week we were able to have the Elders help us with her son which was great. Floren is doing great. She is still struggling with tea and coming to church. We are really trying and praying for her to overcome that. Sumi is great. We had previously dropped her and then picked her back up a few weeks later as she just showed up for us to teach her. She is cute and we had a really great lesson with her. We kind of gave her an ultimatum lesson. Obviously the Spirit was there and testified pretty strongly. We committed her to baptism and to start acting in the gospel so she can receive that answer she has been waiting for.

Sis Curtis' B-day with Chun Family

Sis Curtis’ B-day with Chun Family

Yesterday we were able to announce to our members with the help of our Bishop a great activity. It is called ‘Bring Your Friend to Church Day’. It is going to be great. We hope that our members can all bring friends. It was a pretty great presentation to them after church. Before it ended though I felt the Spirit tell me that I needed to bear my testimony and promise something to them. I stood up and shared a powerful testimony and I knew it was not me speaking but the Spirit. All I had to do was open my mouth and it was filled. It was really cool to see that happen. The promise that I made to them I could see it in all their eyes that they wanted it. The Spirit promised through me that West Point would have a much bigger ward and that their joy of bringing a friend into the gospel would be so great. Wow, the Spirit was so amazing. He definitely helped seal the deal and I think our members are more excited than they were. I was so happy:)

Week 75.4Easter Sunday was awesome! A great day to remember our Saviour and all that He does for us. It was amazing again to think about all the people I love in Heaven and that I really will be able to see them again:) Our ward sang and we had some great lessons. I love our ward. Afterward we went to one of our members, the Lau family, homes for lunch and to meet with their sister again. We really hope she can accept the gospel. They are a family and awesome members! I love working with them!

The mission is the Highlight of my LIFE! I love it! All of it!

My new Bruce LEE shirt! Pow!

My new Bruce LEE shirt! Pow!

This week has been quite great! It seems pretty normal but we extended a baptismal date to our investigator Rebecca and she accepted! We were so happy. She is progressing and doing well. She has come to church the past 3 or 4 weeks. I love helping her come unto Christ. She has the desire and really loves church. We have been seeing her about once a week and we would love to see her more than that. I really am so excited for her. Her baptismal date is 15 May 2016. She came to all of Stake Conference yesterday with her son and is doing great. I am a bit worried for her son, Daniel. He is a typical 12 year old boy. Trying to figure out how to help him like church but at least at church her has a friend in the ward:)

We had to change our other investigator, Floren’s baptismal date. She was really sad but at least she still has hope. She has some Word of Wisdom problems still. She is still willing to meet with us and really wants to get baptized. She will come around and we are working with her even more to be more prepared for baptism and following Christ will just make her so much happier. We will give her a baptismal date later. She is great though! I love her!

Mong Kok with my old room mates

Mong Kok with my old room mates last P-Day

This week we had quite the run around with Leung Popo. She had hit her head a few weeks back and has had a hard time lately with remembering things and all that. We had a member call us at 9 AM saying she was at her house and she wasn’t there and where is she? And we said of course she isn’t at her house, she is always at the market at 9 AM. Then an hour later another member called and said she called Leung Popo to chat but she introduced herself as Sister Ma and so Popo heard “Sister” and told her she would go to the church and hung up, so we had to go find her on the street and take her home. AND THEN an hour and a half later the Mandarin Elders called us and said Leung Popo was at the church waiting for us, with a ward member she ran into on the street and we had to go back over there and explain the situation and then the member took us all out for BBQ pork and rice. I love her so much though! She is so cute:) She calls us her Grandchildren:)

West Point is great! We were able to get closer to some members this week. It has been great! West Point has some great members! Even though the finding is really, hard the members make up for the hard times as missionaries. They are so amazing and so willing to help us! I love serving here. This week we also started with the members an activity called ‘Bring Your Friend to Church Day’. It will be on 24 April and we are excited! This will help our members feel the missionary spirit more and more. Looking back I have been blessed to serve in areas that all have AMAZING members! I am so happy:) I love working with them and learning from them!

Week 74.2Sister Curtis is great! Today, is her birthday so that is happy. She has finally joined the 20 year old club. We are going to eat and go to Kowloon Tong to pick up her package. I love serving with her. She brings a lot of laughter and hard work into the work!

Have a great week y’all!

Week 74.3

#73 Daaih Faht & Kwun Tong

Week 73.2This week I was all over Hong Kong for many different reasons! I love the mission! It is so happy and I love the work. It is hard but the most rewarding thing ever! There are so many things that make up a mission. I have used a quote my entire mission that my cousin gave me. It totally describes my time here in HK as a missionary.

“On a mission you have those hard times, and then you will have those Heavenly times that help you remember the work that you are doing is eternal.” -Deanna Jenson

It is so true! This week I had all happiness and sadness that a missionary experiences. I would love to share some fun things with you….

Week 73.13I am loving serving in West Point. The members are so great and I love serving with them. They are so happy and love helping us. The finding in West Point is pretty hard. People on the street just don’t stop as much to talk to us. This week though we called a potential investigator from the potential sheet and she was interested. We taught a very powerful and spirit filled Restoration lesson. Wendy is 16 and really wants to know if our message is true. I think the one problem might be her family members. They are also Christian. She was supposed to come to church yesterday but didn’t and we don’t know why. We hope she is okay and will answer our calls later. Keeping a prayerful and faith filled attitude.

Our investigator Rebecca Yik is doing really well. Of course I absolutely love her. She is really sweet, straight from mainland, and has my same name:) She really loves church and learns a lot at church. She brought her son to church and now he has some friends. I am not sure if he likes it or not. He has a cold and was really quiet. We will see them on Tuesday with a  member family. I am so excited! She is doing well. We will be giving her a baptismal date next time we see her! She is an answer to our prayers!

Week 73.3This past weekend I went on exchanges with Sister Gomez in Kwun Tong. It was so fun! I loved serving with her and I loved Kwun Tong. It was nice to go finding in Kowloon again. The people are way more willing to stop and talk to us. We scheduled a family for them. Sister Gomez is great. She was a little scared at first because she has only been here like 3 weeks and had to lead the area. She is so strong and is a great missionary. She is hard working, happy, and is learning to love missionary work. She is doing great at adjusting to mission life! On our exchange she has her first Chinese food and thought it was okay. She is great and so happy! I am so grateful I got to serve with a great missionary! Also, on the exchange we got to go out of Kwun Tong to Kowloon City to teach their Recent Convert! WOW!!! Could I ever say I was so excited! My heart just pound that whole time there! So fun! I love Kowloon City! It was also great to serve in Kwun Tong! Also a place of miracles:)

Week 73.12Leung Popo is doing great. The ward loves her and are really happy when she comes to church. She is so great and learning so much. She almost has said a prayer all by herself. We will keep working on it. She is so happy to be a member and understands a lot. It is still hard for her in church as she can’t really hear and understand. She comes though because she feels at peace and happy. The Spirit is definitely the teacher for her. We will continue to help her come unto Christ and learn more. She is doing great. She always asks when she can go to heaven.

On Monday we went to Big Buddha! It was so fun to go back there and hike the stairs. A beautiful place. I loved it! We made some funny jokes and just engrossed ourselves in Chinese culture. Today we are going to Mong Kok with Sister De Ocampo and Sister Taylor:) So excited!

It was a great week. Although we dropped the cutest family we are working hard to see the fruits of our labors. Each day is different and each day you learn. Keeping my head up and working hard:)

This is a little diddy that she put in a separate email about her health…

So this last 3 weeks I have had some stomach problems. The nurse and I think it has something to do with lactose. I guess it makes sense because I haven’t had much dairy my whole mission until now because there is lots of western food now. We are going through some tests and trying to add on a little bit at a time. We will see if I am actually lactose intolerant. If I am it would only be to certain lactose products. I can keep you posted.Week 73.1
